Question:

What is a collective action problem?

Ixel H.
Answer:

Collective action is when a group of people work together to achieve a common good. Group projects are a great example. Completing a group project is beneficial to all the members in the group. When all the members in that group come together to complete the project, they are engaging in collective action. That collective action becomes a collective action problem if/when members in the group do not contribute to completing the group project. Although the members in the group share a common goal, completing the project, it may prove too costly so they start defecting. A collective action problem is when a collective action breaks down because people begin to defect.
