How would you know if a molecule is polar or non-polar? What does polarity do?
In order to be "polar", a molecule must satisfy 2 conditions: have at least 1 polar bond and its geometry is non symmetrical. The polarity of a molecule will affect the intermolecular forces between atoms in a substance. The strength of the forces will determine some characteristics of the substance including boiling temperature, melting temperature or water solubility.
How would you you determine if a compound has ionic bond or covalent bond?
Ionic bond is the bond between metal and non-metal species while covalent bond is between non-metal species only.
Subject: Basic Chemistry
What's the difference between ionic bond and covalent bond?
Ionic bond involves transfer of electrons while covalent bond involves sharing of electrons.
