Question:

Resolve the following exercise: 3X+6=18-3X

Mariely H.

Answer:

In algebra the main point is to isolate the X. We see that we have a number with an X on the left side and the right side of the = symbol. Steps to resolve the equation: Usually we write the X on the left and numbers on the right of the = symbol. When we transfer a number(doesn't matter if it has an X or not) the number will change from + to - or - to + as follows: Note: To help with the transitions we named each X and number as First and Second so we don't loose track of them) 3X(first X)+6(first number)=18(second number)-3X(second X) 3X+3X=18-6 First X stays in the same place, Second X we transfer it to the left side of the = symbol, by doing this it changes from - to +. After this we move the numbers to the right side, by doing this the second number stays the same because we are not transfiguring it, the one that we transferred is the first number, and by doing that it changes from + to -. After this we follow by adding or substracting each side as follows: 3X+3X=18-6 6X=12 Because each X is + we add the numbers that are in front of the X, leaving the X intact, we end up with 6X. We do the same thing on the right side, but this time we substract, we end up with 12. The next step is isolating the letter X, we do this by dividing each side with the number that is next to the X, as follows: 6X=12 6X/6=12/6 X=2 When we divide each side with the number that is in front of the X we remove the number front the side that we have the X, but it is added to the side that we have the numbers. After this we just divide on the right side and after the X is alone, we have our answer.
